$54 million in asphalt rehab projects awarded for counties across state

Projects costs range from $96,000 to $6.9 million

FRANKFORT, Ky. (June 24, 2013) – More than $54 million in asphalt rehab projects were awarded this month by the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet. The latest round of projects brings this year’s total for asphalt rehabilitation contacts to more than $140 million.

The asphalt contracts recently awarded are taking place in 59 of Kentucky’s 120 counties.

“Improving and maintaining our roadways through asphalt rehabilitation is just one of the ways we work toward providing safe and efficient travel routes throughout the commonwealth,” said Kentucky Transportation Secretary Mike Hancock. “We are pleased so many projects can be awarded that help us accomplish this goal.”

The contracts awarded span the commonwealth, from Fulton County in the south west to Greenup County in the north east. They also range in cost from a $6.9 million project to improve KY 80 in Pulaski County to a $96,000 project in Caldwell County to improve North Jefferson Street (KY 293).

The list includes:

• Bath County – A 1.7-mile section of Owingsville-Frenchburg Road (KY 36) from Slate Creek Bridge to just east of Roberts Road. The Walker Company of Kentucky Inc. was awarded the contract for $178,500. Completion date: Nov. 15, 2013.

• Bourbon County – A 3.8-mile section of Cynthiana Road (U.S. 27) from U.S. 68 to KY 1876. Frederick & May Construction Co. was awarded the project for $139,717. Completion date: Oct. 31, 2013.

• Boyd County – Two sections of road including a 1.8-mile section of KY 854 from 0.262 miles west of KY 1945 to KY 3 and a 2.4-mile section of Midland Trail (KY 3291) from KY 180 to U.S. 60. Mountain Enterprises was awarded the contract for $419,250. Completion date: Nov. 30, 2013.

• Bracken County – A 3.6-mile section of Mary Ingles Highway (KY 8) from the county line to Willow Creek Road. Mago Construction Company LLC was awarded the contract for $226,381. Completion date: Nov. 15, 2013.

• Breckinridge County – Two contracts awarded:

– A 3.4-mile section of Hardinsburg-Irvington Road (U.S. 60) from KY 992 to KY 1616. Mago Construction Company LLC was awarded the contract for $698,567. Completion date: Nov. 15, 2013.

– Four sections of road including a 4.2-mile section of KY 144 from KY 2779 to KY 259; a 1.9-mile section of KY 144 from KY 376 to the county line; a 3-mile section of Webster-Basin Springs Road from KY 2780 to U.S. 60; and a 2-mile section of Kingswood Mattingly School Road (KY 1740) from the east end of the Tules Creek Bridge to KY 79. Gohmann Construction Inc. was awarded the contract for $740,000. Completion date: Nov. 30, 2013.

• Caldwell County – A 1-mile section of North Jefferson Street (KY 293) from Grace Street to north of Apache Drive. Todd County Crushed Stone LLC d/b/a Pennyrile Asphalt was awarded the contract for $96,745. Completion date: Nov. 15, 2013.

• Calloway County – Four sections of road including a 4.1-mile section of Pottertown Road (KY 280) from 2.6 miles east of KY 1536 to Sauger Lane; a 2.3-mile section of Rob Mason Road (KY 783) from KY 94 to KY 121; a 1.3-mile section of Browns Grove Road (KY 893) from Aaron Road to KY 1836; and a 2.2-mile section of Bethel Road (KY 1483) from KY 94 to KY 80. Jim Smith Contracting Company LLC was awarded the contract for $831,533. Completion date: Nov. 30, 2013.

• Carter County – Three sections of road including a 4.2-mile section of KY 2 from Jordan Fork Bridge to KY 474; a 2-mile section of KY 504 from the county line to KY 955; and a 2.1-mile section of KY 773 from KY 7 to KY 1 (omitting mile point 1.234 to 2.6). Mac Construction and Excavating Inc. was awarded the contract for $787,000. Completion date: Nov. 30, 2013.

• Christian County – Three contracts awarded:

– A 2-mile section of Canton Pike (KY 272) from U.S. 68B to KY 380. Todd County Crushed Stone LLC d/b/a Pennyrile Asphalt was awarded the contract for $265,057. Completion date: Nov. 15, 2013.

– A 1-mile section of Fort Campbell Boulevard (U.S. 41A) from the north end of South Fork Little River Bridge to East 21^st Street. Rogers Group Inc. was awarded the contract for $372,226. Completion date: Nov. 15, 2013.

– A 4.5-mile section of Ed Breathitt Parkway from mile point 7.5 to 12.1. Rogers Group Inc. was  awarded the contract for $1.5 million. Completion date: Oct. 31, 2013.

• Clay County – Two contracts awarded:

– A 1.5-mile section of Red Bird River and Oneida-Hyden (Bull Skin) Road (KY 66) from Jacks Creek Road to KY 149. Elmo Greer & Sons LLC was awarded the contract for $118,037. Completion date: Nov. 15, 2013.

– Six sections of road including a 0.9-mile section of KY 149 from 2.2 mile northeast of Britton Branch Road to 1.2 miles south of KY 66; a 2.3-mile section of KY 638 from 1 mile southeast of the county line to KY 472; a 1.4-mile section of KY 638 from KY 472 to Goslin Branch Road; a 1.2-mile section of KY 687 from Cupp Cemetery Road to 0.6 miles west of Urban Creek Road; a 2-mile section of KY 1524 from 0.3 miles south of Hubbard Road to Mud Lick Road; and 1.4-mile section of Gray Fork Road (KY 3476) from KY 687 to KY 638. Elmo Greer & Sons LLC was awarded the contract for $726,877. Completion date: Nov. 30, 2013.

• Cumberland County – A 2.4-mile section of Albany Road (KY 90) from KY 61 to Bow Road. Gaddie-Shamrock LLC was awarded the contract for $525,015. Completion date: Nov. 15, 2013.

• Edmonson County – A 4.7-mile section of Mammoth Cave Road (KY 70) from KY 259 to KY 2325. Scotty’s Contracting and Stone LLC was awarded the contract for $409,156. Completion date: Nov. 15, 2013.

• Estill County – Two contracts awarded

– A 3.4-mile section of Irvine-Winchester Road (KY 89) from KY 794 to KY 1886. Hinkle Contracting Company LLC was awarded the contract for $577,968. Completion date: Nov. 15, 2013.

– A 2.2-mile section of Kirkland Avenue in Irving (KY 1645) from KY 2461 to KY 1571. Hinkle Contracting Company LLC was awarded the contract for $242,590. Completion date: Nov. 15, 2013.

• Floyd County – Two contracts awarded:

– A 2.5-mile section of Watergap Road (KY 302) from KY 80 to KY 1428. Mountain Enterprises Inc. was awarded the contract for $528,420. Completion date: Nov. 15, 2013.

– Pavement patching for seven sections of road including a 12.2-mile section of KY 194 from KY 1428 to the county line; a 7.8-mile section of KY 777 from KY 7 to KY 80; a 7.5-mile section of KY 850 from KY 550 to KY 404; a 3.7-mile section of KY 1100 from KY 1750 to U.S. 23; a 14.2-mile section of KY 1426 from U.S. 23 to the county line; a 4.6-mile section of KY 1427 from KY 114 to KY 1750; and a 7.8-mile section of KY 2030 from KY 122 to KY 1426. • Fulton County – A 1.6-mile section of Tyler-Hickman Road (KY 94) from the state line to 0.2 miles east of the railroad crossing. Murray Paving Inc. was awarded the contract for $362,795. Completion date: Nov. 15, 2013.

• Gallatin County – A 1.5-mile section of Johnson Road (KY 455) from U.S. 127 to the south end of the Interstate 71 overpass bridge. Mago Construction Company LLC was awarded the contract for $108,926. Completion date: Nov. 15, 2013.

• Grant County – A 1.3-mile section of Dixie Highway (U.S. 25) from Ridgelea Drive to 500 feet south of Hogans Parkway. Bluegrass Paving Inc. was awarded the contract for $118,430. Completion date: Nov. 15, 2013.

• Graves County – Two contracts awarded:

– A 4.9-mile section of Said Road (KY 131) from the north end of West Fork Clarks River to the county line. Jim Smith Contracting Company LLC was awarded the contract for $490,413. Completion date: Nov. 15, 2013.

– Two sections of Fulton-Murray Road (KY 94) including a 3.88-mile section from KY 83 to the county line and a 10.5-mile section from U.S. 45 to KY 303. Jim Smith Contracting Company LLC was awarded the contract for $1.57 million. Completion date: Nov. 15, 2013.

• Grayson County – Two sections of road including a 2.2-mile section of Millerstown Road (KY 224) from U.S. 62 to KY 3210 and 4.5-mile section of Brandenburg Road (KY 259) from the railroad crossing to Hilton Mill Road. Scotty’s Contracting and Stone LLC was awarded the contract for $748,315. Completion date: Nov. 15, 2013.

• Green County – An 8.2-mile section of Columbia Highway (KY 61) from the county line to U.S. 68. Nally & Haydon Surfacing LLC was awarded the contract for $735,143. Completion date: Nov. 15, 2013.

• Greenup County – A 6.9-mile section of KY 2 from Shells Fork Road to U.S. 23. Mountain Enterprises Inc. was awarded the contract $627,248. Completion date: Nov. 30, 2013.

• Harlan County – Two contracts awarded:

– A 4.1-mile section of Pineville-Harlan Road (U.S. 119) from KY 3461 to KY 840. Mountain Enterprises was awarded the contract for $1.18 million. Completion date: Nov. 15, 2013.

– Two sections of road including a 4.5-mile section of Harlan-Cumberland Road (U.S. 119) from KY 522 to just north of Tim Bowman Road and a 0.72-mile section of Sunshine Road (KY 3459) from the railroad crossing to the south end of the bridge over Martins Fork. Mountain Enterprises Inc. was awarded the contract for $1.27 million. Completion date: Nov. 15, 2013.

• Harrison County – Three sections of road including a 2.8-mile section of KY 356 from 3.2 miles northwest of KY 1842 to Twin Creek Road; a  3.1-mile section of KY 392 from U.S. 62 to the new pavement joint at Diamond Lane; and a 3.2-mile section of KY 3004 from KY 1744 to KY 1053. Hinkle Contracting Company LLC was awarded the contract for $618,428. Completion date: Nov. 30, 2013.

• Henderson County – A 2.5-mile section of Henderson-Owensboro Road (U.S. 60) from just west of Barrett Boulevard to just west of Tillman-Bethel Road. JH Rudolph & Co Inc. and subsidiaries were awarded the contract for $805,545. Completion date: Oct. 15, 2013.

• Henry and Trimble counties – A 7.6 mile section of Brownsboro Road (U.S. 62) that stretches across Henry and Trimble counties from the Oldham County line in Henry County to KY 3157 in Trimble County. Ohio Valley Asphalt Inc. was awarded the contract for $579,793. Completion date: Nov. 15, 2013.

• Hopkins County — A 1-mile section of Industrial Parkway (KY 109) from the county line to U.S. 62. Todd County Crushed Stone LLC d/b/a Pennyrile Asphalt was awarded the contract for $183,233. Completion date: Nov. 15, 2013.

• Jackson County – A 2-mile section of McKee-Sandgap Road (U.S. 421) from KY 89 to Sand Lick Road. Elmo Greer & Sons was awarded the contract for $195,296. Completion date: Nov. 15, 2013.

• Jefferson County – Two contracts awarded:

– Two sections of Shelbyville Road (U.S. 60) including a 2.66-mile section from KY 2841 to the county line and a 0.09-mile section near Long Run Road. Louisville Paving Company Inc. was awarded the contract for $404,651. Completion date: Nov. 15, 2013.

– Jefferson County – A 3.2-mile section of Breckinridge Lane (KY 1932) from U.S. 31E to Hillbrook Drive. Flynn Brothers Contracting Inc. was awarded the contract for $829,863. Completion date: Oct. 15, 2013.

• Johnson County – Asphalt pavement patching for four sections of road including a 7-mile section of KY 580 from KY 40 to KY 2318; a 1.5-mile section of KY 689 from KY 172 to just west of Spriggs Branch Road; a 3.5-mile section of KY 1092 from KY 469 to KY 689; and a 1.2-mile section of Ponderosa Drive (KY 3388) from 1.2 miles south of KY 40 to KY 40. Mountain Enterprises was awarded the contract for $553,000. Completion date: Nov. 30, 2013.

• Knott County – Asphalt patching for several sections of road including along a 6.6-mile section of KY 721 from KY 1088 to KY 550; along a 20.47-mile section of  KY 1087 from the county line to KY 550; a 8.9-mile section of Yellow Creek Road (KY 1088)  from the county line to KY 15; along a 16.11-mile section of Elmrock Decoy Road (KY 1098) from the county line to KY 550; along a 8-mile section of Big Branch Road (KY 1231) from KY 15 to KY 550; and along a 4-mile section of Spruce Pine Road (KY 1697) from KY 550 to KY 899. • Lawrence County – Two contracts awarded:

• Leslie County – Four sections of road including a 2.2-mile section of Bullskin Road from 3.8 miles north of U.S. 421 to 1.4 miles southeast of the county line; a 0.3-mile section of Bullskin Road from 0.9 miles northwest of Hell for Certain Road to 1 mile east of the county line; a 2.4-mile section of Middlefork Road from KY 2058 to 1.2 miles south of KY 1850; and a 1.7-mile section of Coon Creek Road (KY 3427) from Big Branch Road to KY 699. • Lincoln County – Two sections of road including a 3.9-mile section of KY 1770 from Walnut Flat Creek Bridge to Manuel Road and a 3.2-mile section of KY 3249 from KY 698 to U.S. 27. The Allen Company Inc. was awarded the contract for $612,496. Completion date: Nov. 30, 2013.

• Logan County – A 9-mile section of Franklin Road (KY 100) from KY 100 westbound to the county line. Scotty’s Contracting and Stone LLC was awarded the contract for $720,635. Completion date: Nov. 15, 2013.

• Lyon County – A 2.8-mile section of Eddyville-Princeton Road (KY 293) from 0.3 miles north of KY 818 to the county line. Jim Smith Contracting LLC was awarded the contract for $222,569. Completion date: Nov. 15, 2013.

• Madison County – A 2.8-mile section of Red House Road (KY 388) from the north edge of Otter Creek Bridge to KY 627. The Allen Company Inc. was awarded the contract for $229,494. Completion date: Nov. 15, 2013.

• Marshall County – Four sections of road including a 3.6-mile section of Griggstown Road (KY 782) from KY 795 to U.S. 68; a 1.3-mile section of Slickback Road (KY 1311) from KY 402 to KY 1949; a 2.5-mile section of Tatumsville Highway (KY 1422) from U.S. 641 to Little Bear Highway; and a 2.3-mile section of Benton-Briensburg Road (KY 1477) from KY 1462 to KY 58. • Muhlenberg County – Three contracts awarded:

• Nelson County – Two contracts awarded:

– Two sections of road including a 2-mile section of Springfield Road (KY 55) from U.S. 62/KY 48 to Big Springs Road and a 1.75-mile section of  Solitude Road (KY 480) from the county line to U.S. 31E. – Three sections of road including a 3.9-mile section of Holy Cross Road (KY 457) from KY 52 to the county line; a 5.2-mile section of Fairfield Road (KY 509) from U.S. 31E to KY 48; and a 1.4-mile section of Tunnel Mill Road (KY 2738) from 0.75 miles east of KY 55 to one mile west of Murphy Lane. • Oldham County – Two sections of road including a 13.3-mile section of Louisville-Cincinnati Road (U.S. 42) from KY 1694 to the county line and a 3-mile section of LaGrange Road (KY 53) from the county line to KY 22. • Owen County – A 3.9-mile section of Cornith Road (KY 330) from KY 1883 to KY 845. Mago Construction Company LLC was awarded the contract for $220,232. Completion date: Nov. 15, 2013.

• Owsley County – A 13.4-mile section of Manchester-Booneville-Beattyville Road (KY 11) from 0.45 miles north of KY 577 to Mayers Road. Hinkle Contracting Company LLC was awarded the contract for $1.45 million. Completion date: Nov. 15, 2013.

• Pike County – A 5.8-mile section of Indian Creek-Shelbiana Road (KY 122) from KY 2167 (Mile point 10.4) to U.S. 460 (Mile point 15.9). Mountain Enterprises Inc. was awarded the project for $573,183. Completion date: Nov. 15, 2013.

• Powell County – A 3.4-mile section of Furnace-Jeffersonville Road (KY 213) from Hatton Creek School Road to Caudill Road. Hinkle Contracting Company LLC was awarded the contract for $401,845. Completion date: Nov. 15, 2013.

• Pulaski County – Six contracts awarded:

• Shelby County – Two sections of roads including a 1.2-mile section of Taylorsville Road (KY 55) from Old Brunerstown Road to just south of U.S. 60 and a 0.6-mile section of Waddy-Peytona Road (KY 395) from 0.6 mile south of U.S. 60 to U.S. 60. Louisville Paving Company Inc. was awarded the contract for $405,166. Completion date: Nov. 15, 2013.

• Washington  County – Two contracts awarded:

– A 0.92-mile section of Jackson-Stanton Road (KY 15) from just south of KY 2491 to KY 191. Hinkle Contracting Company LLC was awarded the contract for $252,940. Completion date: Nov. 15, 2013.

– Two sections of roadway including a 3.1-mile section of KY 2016 from Booth Ridge Road to KY 715 and a 2.1-mile section of KY 2491 from 0.656 miles south of  Trace Fork Road to 0.5 miles south of Hidden Holler Road. Hinkle Contracting Company LLC was awarded the contract for $372,082. Completion date: Nov. 30, 2013.

• Woodford County – A 2-mile section of Versailles Road (U.S. 60) from 0.2 miles west of U.S. 60-U.S. 62 intersection to 400 feet west of the intersection. The contract was awarded to a joint venture between HG Mays Corp and Mago Construction Company LLC for $805,294. Completion date: Nov. 15, 2014.
