Public encouraged to share favorite Rupp Arena memories

LEXINGTON, Ky. (Aug. 28, 2013) — Whether you’ve been there once or hundreds of times, a visit to Rupp Arena is a memorable experience. As the city works to reinvent Rupp, Mayor Jim Gray invites you to use social media or e-mail to share some of your favorite Rupp Memories.

Those comments will be incorporated into upcoming public meetings about the future of the arena and available online.

“Rupp is an iconic building for Lexington and its history is important,” Gray said. “Leveraging that remarkable history will be a key part of reinventing the arena to elevate the Rupp brand, the UK brand and the city.”

Since it opened in 1976, Rupp Arena has been home to the University of Kentucky men’s basketball team. The arena has also hosted a variety of other sporting events, concerts, and graduation ceremonies.

In July, internationally acclaimed architecture firm NBBJ and Hunt Construction Group were selected for the Rupp Arena project.

The public can submit their Rupp memories through Facebook, Twitter or e-mail ([email protected]).
