KD Analytical to add 15 jobs, expand facility in Lexington

Nearly $900,000 investment; expansion to triple facility size, double number of employees

FRANKFORT, Ky. (Feb. 28, 2012) – Governor Steve Beshear today announced KD Analytical Consulting Inc. (KD), which provides support, service and training to the emergency first responder community, will expand its operation at Lexington’s Bluegrass Station by adding more than 7,000 sq. ft. to its existing 1,850 sq. ft. facility. The growth means an investment of $897,800 and will include the hiring of 15 full-time employees.

“KD Analytical provides an invaluable service to folks who put their lives on the line every day for our protection,” Beshear said. “This expansion will not only create more than a dozen new jobs in the city of Lexington, but it will also provide a crucial service to firefighters and first responders protecting communities, homes and families.”

Headquartered in Harrisburg, Pa., KD Analytical provides support, service and training for chemical, biological, radiological and nuclear (CBRN) detection equipment. In 2010, KD established a facility at Lexington’s Bluegrass Station to provide support and service to the Air Force, supporting more than 80 bases worldwide. KD’s expansion will provide support, service and training to local emergency management and first responders.

“This expansion will allow the company to better serve our existing customers and to deliver our unique services to a broader range of clients in the emergency first responder and homeland defense sectors,” said KD Analytical Vice President Craig Crume. “Our ability to add a significant number of skilled jobs to the Lexington economy is a point of pride for KD and a real measure of our success. We are grateful for the support we’ve received from Gov. Beshear’s office, KEDFA, Bluegrass Station and the Lexington business community, who’ve worked together to help make our growth possible. Our team is eager to start the expansion and to begin filling new positions.”

“The management team at Bluegrass Station has demonstrated a strong commitment to supporting businesses like KD Analytical,” said Jon Terpening, who leads KD Analytical operations from the Lexington location. “They’ve made it an easy decision for us to expand at this location as we plan for the future.”

To encourage the job growth in Lexington, the Kentucky Economic Development Finance Authority (KEDFA) preliminarily approved KD Analytical for tax incentives up to $200,000 through the Kentucky Business Investment program. The performance-based incentive allows a company to keep a portion of its investment over the term of the agreement through corporate income tax credits and wage assessments by meeting job and investment targets.

“This investment speaks to the commitment of this company to Lexington and the work ethic of our people,” said Sen. Alice Forgy Kerr, of Lexington. “I am pleased to hear the company will create 15 new jobs and will support our emergency first responders as they perform the duties necessary to protect and serve our community.”

“I applaud KD Analytical on today’s announcement and their commitment to expanding their business base in the Commonwealth,” said Rep. Donna Mayfield, of Winchester. “It is also encouraging to see Bluegrass Station (the former Blue Grass Army Depot at Avon) becoming a key business hub for companies dealing with the military and emergency services. Today’s decision by KD Analytical to expand is a true testament to the region’s workforce and the favorable business climate that central Kentucky offers.”

“In addition to the good jobs KD Analytical is bringing to our community, I’m excited about the learning opportunities this company can offer our firefighters and the potential improvements in public safety for Lexington and communities across Kentucky,” Lexington Mayor Jim Gray said.

“We have enjoyed working with KD Analytical on this expansion project,” said Bob Quick, CCE, President and CEO of Commerce Lexington Inc. “KD Analytical will create additional opportunities for our community and we appreciate their continued investment in Lexington. We look forward to working them for many years to come.”
