FRANKFORT, Ky. (Nov. 15, 2013) –Rodney Kuhl, who has 26 years of experience in private-sector management, customer service and business development, has been appointed Commissioner of the Department of Vehicle Regulation. The appointment is effective immediately. He succeeds Tom Zawacki, whom Gov. Steve Beshear appointed Secretary of the Education and Workforce Development Cabinet.
Kuhl has spent most of his career in banking – most recently as Market President of Forcht Bank, overseeing four branches. The Department of Vehicle Regulation comprises the Divisions of Customer Service, Driver Licensing, Motor Carriers and Motor Vehicle Licensing, and its essential services touch every corner of the commonwealth. Secretary Mike Hancock said Kuhl’s managerial and customer-service abilities are well-suited to its mission.
“Rodney Kuhl brings a wealth of experience to our cabinet and will be an invaluable addition to our management team,” Hancock said.
Kuhl also has a record of public service. He serves on the Scott Rose Foundation and the Cancer Survivor Celebration Dinner-Baptist Health Corbin. He also servedon the boards of the Southeast Kentucky Chamber of Commerce-Ambassador Club, London-Laurel County Chamber of Commerce Education Committee and United Way of Laurel County.
Kuhl is a native of Laurel County and holds a bachelor’s degree in public relations from Eastern Kentucky University. He also is a graduate of the Kentucky Banking School.
Kuhl and his wife, Debbie, reside in Corbin. They have two children in college, Kayla and Marcus.
