Tax reform Ccmmission to develop recommendations to realign tax code; launches website

FRANKFORT, Ky.  (March 7, 2012) – Chaired by Lt. Gov. Jerry Abramson, the Blue Ribbon Commission on Tax Reform has begun its work and has launched a website that will help collect public input as the panel examines how best to realign Kentucky’s tax code.
Lt. Gov. Abramson announced the website, http://ltgovernor.ky.gov/taxreform, at the commission’s first meeting on Tuesday, March 6. Citizens can offer comments through online forms or request to make presentations at upcoming commission meetings scheduled across the state.
“The work of this tax reform commission will impact the future of all Kentuckians,” Lt. Gov. Abramson said. “That’s why our website and series of meetings are designed for public input and transparency as we move forward with this critical process.”
The Commission will hold 11 more meetings throughout the state this year. Those meetings are scheduled in Frankfort, Paducah, Bowling Green, Louisville, Covington, Prestonsburg and Lexington.
The next meeting is Tuesday, April 10, at 1 p.m. in Room 154 of the Capitol Annex in Frankfort. A complete list of dates and times is available on thewebsite.
Gov. Steve Beshear announced the commission’s members Feb. 9, representing a broad spectrum of public and private sector experience and all corners of the state. The panel’s recommendations are due to the Governor by Nov. 15, 2012.
