498,000-pound boiler traveling from Tennessee to Ohio
FRANKFORT, Ky. (Feb. 20, 2014) – The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet is alerting motorists to an oversized load slowly traveling from Tennessee to Ohio.
Diamond Heavy Haul, of Shandon, Ohio, is transporting a 498,000-pound boiler. It entered the commonwealth from Tennessee on Wednesday on U.S. 641 to the Purchase Parkway and Interstate 24. The caravan headed east toward Barren County via U.S. 68, William H. Natcher Parkway and I-65.
The oversized load is to continue along the following Kentucky routes:
♦ I-65 north to Martha Layne Collins/Bluegrass Parkway east
♦ Bluegrass Parkway east to U.S. 127 north to I-64 east
♦ I-64 east to KY 922 (Newtown Pike) in Lexington, where it will turn around to use the I-64/I-75 split
♦ From the split, north on I-75 to I-275 and on into Ohio
The boiler’s dimensions are 195 feet long, 23 feet wide, and 15 feet 6 inches tall.
Motorists need to use caution and exercise patience if they get behind the transporter and its four escort vehicles. Do not attempt to pass.
The caravan is moving at about 45 to 50 mph and slows at bridges and overpasses. The caravan has been pulling off the road periodically to help release the traffic queue.
