Excellence in Entrepreneurship Awards seeking nominations

Deadline is June 5

RICHMOND, Ky. (May 12, 2014) — The Eastern Kentucky University College of Business and Technology, Kentucky Highlands Investment Corp., Southeast Kentucky Economic Development Corp. and The Center for Rural Development are soliciting nominations for the 2014 Excellence in Entrepreneurship Awards (EIEA) program. These four sponsoring organizations have come together to recognize entrepreneurs who demonstrate exceptional achievements within the Eastern and Southern Kentucky geographic region.

This year’s awards will be given to entrepreneurs in four categories: For-Profit Business; Start-Up Business; Not-for-Profit Entity; and Young Entrepreneur.

The primary purpose of the EIEA program is to recognize and promote individuals in the region who have exemplified the entrepreneurial spirit by creating and managing a successful business enterprise.

“By highlighting these success stories, we provide both encouragement and ‘best practice’ models for aspiring entrepreneurs to emulate,” said Larry Combs, director of business services and technology at The Center for Rural Development and Chair of the EIE Awards Committee. “Entrepreneurship puts new business ideas into practice, and in doing so, fuels economic growth by creating new products and services that result in job creation in Southern and Eastern Kentucky.”

Nominations must be received by June 5. Nominations may be submitted online at eiea.eku.edu.

Selection of award finalists and award winners is determined by a committee of partner representatives and external stakeholders.  The award finalists will be recognized and the winners announced at a regional EIEA awards luncheon on Monday, September 8, at The Center for Rural Development in Somerset.

This is the 12th year the awards have been offered to celebrate the achievements of entrepreneurs in the Eastern and Southern Kentucky region.
