Kentucky firefighters gather in Lexington for annual state fire school

LEXINGTON, Ky. (June 3, 2014) — Firefighters across the state will have the opportunity to sharpen their skills at the 85th Annual Kentucky State Fire School scheduled for June 5-8 in Lexington.

Classes begin at 8 a.m. on Thursday at the Lexington Convention Center and Cox Street parking lot (located behind Rupp Arena).

”Today’s firefighters must be multi-skilled and prepared for new challenges,” said Kentucky Fire Commission Executive Director Ronnie Day. “This annual fire school provides them the education and tools they need to be able to handle different types of fires and other specialized rescues.”

The more than 1,200 firefighters and first responders expected to attend from across the commonwealth will be able to choose from more than 40 courses that offer both hands-on and classroom training. In addition to Kentucky State Fire School, a bike night with live music will be held Saturday night in the Cox Street parking lot. Motorcycles are not mandatory. The event is free and open to the public.
