Project will improve safety at airport

FRANKFORT, Ky. (June 6, 2014) – Gov. Steve Beshear on Thursday announced the award of a $1 million grant to the Cynthiana-Harrison County Airport Board for safety improvements.

The grant by the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet Department of Aviation will be applied toward grade work for a new, 2,757-foot taxiway parallel to the current runway. Once complete, the new taxiway will allow airplanes to safely exit the runway and taxi back to the parking area, freeing space for incoming aircraft and parked aircraft.

“Local and regional airports create economic development opportunities and add to the quality of life of our communities,” Beshear said. “Keeping them safe and providing means for their continual improvement benefits the communities they serve, but also the entire commonwealth.”

The new taxiway is expected to be completed by 2015.
