Group seeks ways to improve economy in Eastern Kentucky
FRANKFORT, Ky. (June 12, 2014) — Shaping Our Appalachian Region (SOAR) initiative — a public-private endeavor to improve the overall economy and quality of life for Kentucky’s Appalachian region — now has a website with access to the organization’s latest news, and information.
The SOAR initiative was launched by Governor Steve Beshear and Congressman Hal Rogers in 2013 in response to the financial challenges facing Eastern Kentucky with the loss of coal mining jobs by exploring ways to improve the quality of life in economically depressed areas.
SOAR working groups will be meeting throughout the summer and the next SOAR joint committee meeting is tentatively scheduled for July.
