Riverview Park Independence Festival scheduled for June 28

Free event to feature fireworks

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (June 16, 2014) — The Third Annual Riverview Park Independence Festival is scheduled from 3 to 10:30 p.m. on Saturday, June 28 in Louisville. Presented by Louisville Gas & Electric Company and Brown-Forman, the free event will music, food and family activities, culminating with fireworks lit from a barge on the Ohio River.

images“Last year we had a remarkable turnout and we received great feedback from constituents that this is an event they look forward to all year,” said Councilman Rick Blackwell. “This is the only Independence Day celebration of its kind in Southwest Louisville and this year it’s the only one that will have fireworks on the River.”

The event will feature performances by 31W and Ode 2 the Gnu. Kids activities include appearances by Squallis Puppeteers, experiments provided by Mad Science of Kentucky, and the Riverview Splash Park. Hot air balloon rides will also be available. The “Bubbler,” a refillable water station, will also be available for use.

Limited parking is available at the Riverview Park. Additional parking is available at Pleasure Ridge Park High School, at 5901 Greenwood Road. A shuttle will be available from 4 to 10 p.m .
