ESPN ranks Calipari as second best coach in college basketball

Pitino picked fifth on the list of top 50 coaches

calipariLEXINGTON, Ky. (July 3, 2014) — ESPN has been counting down its top 50 college basketball coaches, announcing today that University of Kentucky coach John Calipari is No. 2 on the list, while naming Billy Donovan, of the University of Florida, as the top coach.

University of Louisville coach Rick Pitino was previously named No. 5 and Murray State University coach Steve Prohm was placed on the list of coaches who narrowly missed making the top 50.

In five seasons at UK Calipari is 153-37 and 64-20 in the NCAA Men’s Basketball Tournament with one national championship and three Final Four appearances.

Pitino, in 13 seasons at UofL is 335-116 and 148-62 in the tournament with a national championship and two Final Four appearances. He was also 219-50 in eight seasons at UK, winning one title and reaching the Final Four three times.

Prohm is 74-23 in three seasons at Murray, leading the team to one tournament appearance.
