State fair opening day ceremonies are Thursday

Fair runs from Aug. 14-24

LOUISVILLE, KY (August 13, 2014) — Several events on Thursday will kick off the opening day of the 110th Kentucky State Fair, including the Kentucky Commodity Group Appreciation Breakfast, Opening Day Ceremony, Main Stage Concert Series and the Turf Concert Series.

statefairThe first day begins with Kentucky Commodity Group Appreciation Breakfast sponsored by the Kentucky Department of Agriculture at 7 a.m. All commodity groups will be represented.

The Opening Day Ceremony will begin at 5:30 p.m. with the 113th Army Band from Ft. Knox parading in from Freedom Way. Gov. Steve Beshear, Louisville Mayor Greg Fischer and other dignitaries will be on hand to cut the ribbon at event, which is open to the public in the South Wing Lobby.

“This is the start to an 11-day celebration that highlights Kentucky’s agriculture and history,” said Kentucky State Fair Board President and CEO Clifford “Rip” Rippetoe. “With rides, food, contests and entertainment for all ages, there is something at the fair for everyone.”

The Main Stage Concert Series will begin on Thursday, August 14 with Lady Antebellum with special guest Billy Currington at 8 p.m. in Freedom Hall. Plain White T’s with special guest A Lion Named Roar will perform for free at 8 p.m. in Cardinal Stadium to begin the Turf Concert Series presented by AT&T U-verse.

The state fair is August 14-24 at the Kentucky Exposition Center.
