WorldFest returns to Louisville for 12th year

Free event is Aug. 29 to Sept. 1

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (Aug. 14, 2014) — WorldFest, one of the region’s largest international festivals, is scheduled over Labor Day weekend from Aug. 29 to Sept. 1 on Louisville’s Belvedere downtown.

WorldFestBoardwebsizeMore than 90 bands will perform international music, more than 30 food vendors and nearly 150 booths will provide a global sampling of cuisine and culture.

Headliner music acts include Buckwheat Zydeco, Red Baraat, the Ark Band, Jazz N Pink and Azucar Tumbao. Local and regional world music performers will offer a wide variety of music and dance styles and beats.

Admission to WorldFest is free all four days. The events runs from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. on Friday through Sunday and 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Monday.

Global Village will have representatives from worldwide organizations, dressed in their native clothing, conversing in their native language and dancing to their culture, custom and music.

World of Discovery allows kids to visit the world’s continents through crafts, face-painting and other activities There will also be a special children’s workshop.

The WorldFest Hospitality Tent which will be open to the public throughout WorldFest and will host a reception following the Naturalization Ceremony.

The festival includes a colorful Parade of Cultures at noon on Saturday beginning near Metro Hall at 6th Street, west on Jefferson to 5th Street, then goes north on 5th to WorldFest on the Belvedere, ending at the Main Stage on the West Lawn.

A naturalization ceremony will be Friday at 11 a.m. where nearly 300 immigrants will become full U.S. citizens.

People are encouraged to bring canned goods to benefit Dare to Care Food Bank. Collection bins will be at the main entrance.

Parking is available on nearby streets, and is free after 6 p.m. and all day Sunday.
