Jefferson Davis State Historic Site to host Colored Troops Living History program

FAIRVIEW, Ky. (Aug. 25, 2014) — The Jefferson Davis State Historic Site will host a United States Colored Troops Living History program on Sept. 20 in observation of the Civil War Sesquicentennial.

The living history program will feature the 12th U.S. Colored Heavy Artillery unit from Camp Nelson. The re-enactment and living history group represents African-American soldiers who fought during the Civil War. The unit will demonstrate canon firing from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. This event is free.

Jefferson Davis State Historic Site is the birthplace of Jefferson Davis, the only president of the Confederate States of America. The site is located 25 miles west of Russellville on 68/80 West and nine miles east of Hopkinsville on 68/80 East. The 351-foot obelisk can be seen at least five miles out in every direction.
