Charlann Carroll died on Wednesday

FRANKFORT, Ky. (Sept, 12, 2014) — Gov. Steve Beshear has directed that flags at all state office buildings be lowered to half-staff from sunrise to sunset on Saturday, in honor of former Kentucky First Lady Charlann Carroll. Julian Carroll was governor from 1974-1979 and is a current state Senator.

“Jane and I were saddened to learn of Charlann Carroll’s death,” Beshear said. “Although she spent decades in the public eye as her husband served in the state legislature and the Governor’s mansion, she always remained graceful, approachable and deeply committed to her family. Our thoughts are with her husband, Senator Julian Carroll, their children Kenneth, Patrice and Ellyn, and their family and friends at this difficult time.”

Carroll passed away on Wednesday, and funeral services will be held on Saturday.

Beshear encourages individuals, businesses, organizations and government agencies to join in the flag-lowering tribute.
