Berea College ranked third best liberal arts school by Washington Monthly

Centre, Asbury, Kentucky Wesleyan and University of the Cumberlands also honored

LEXINGTON, Ky. (Sept. 17, 2014) — Berea College is one of the top liberal arts colleges and one of the most affordable, according to Washington Monthly’s 2014 College Rankings.

1409.cover.220x286Colleges were ranked by three categories: Social mobility (recruiting and graduating low-income students), research (producing cutting-edge scholarship and PhDs), and rervice (encouraging students to give something back to their country).

Berea was ranked the third best liberal arts colleges and 25th for affordable elite colleges. Among liberal arts schools Berea was ranked No. 1 for top social mobility, 23rd for community service and 47th for service, staff, courses and financial aid support.

Centre College was ranked the 32nd best liberal arts school, getting ranked 35th for community service and 53rd for service, staff, courses and financial aid support.

For best baccalaureate colleges Asbury University was ranked 18th overall and third for bachelors to PhD rank. Asbury was also ranked 40th for ROTC and 51st for Peace Corps.

Kentucky Wesleyan was ranked 47th, and was ranked 41s in bachelors to PhD rank, 50th in Peace Corps and 59th in research expenditures in the millions.

University of the Cumberlands was ranked 96th for masters’ programs, getting ranked 5th for ROTC.
