Kentucky State Parks to offer geocaching

Technology allows park visitors to play treasure hunting games

state parksFRANKFORT, Ky. (Sept. 17, 2014) — Beginning Sept. 27 visitors to all 49 Kentucky State Parks can use technology to explore the hidden treasures at each park.

Each park is offering geocaching, a real-world outdoor treasure-hunting game using GPS-enabled devices. Participants navigate to a specific set of GPS coordinates and then attempt to find the geocache (container) hidden at that location.

Some of the caches will have prizes such as certificates for free lodging, camping or museums.

To participate, pick up a brochure from any Kentucky State Park or download the passport. A free account can be created at geocaching.com.
