Surface blasting this week in Louisville could lead to traffic delays

Tunnel blasting will not delay traffic

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (Sept. 22, 2014) — Surface blasting taking place this week in Louisville and Southern Indiana could delay traffic for five to 20 minutes in each area where it is taking place.

Surface blasting will occur at 9:30 a.m., 11:30 a.m. and 2:30 p.m. through Friday and at 11:30 a.m. on Saturday in the east end of Louisville near the intersection of U.S. 42 and KY 841. Traffic stops during the blasts will occur on KY 841 between Wolf Pen Branch Rd. and U.S. 42, and on U.S. 42 between Wolf Pen Branch Rd. and Bridgepointe Blvd.

Surface blasting is also scheduled on the same days and times near the intersection of Springdale Rd. and Wolf Pen Branch Rd. Traffic will be stopped on Springdale Rd. at the Green Spring Dr. intersection, and on Wolf Pen Branch Rd. from Wolfpen Woods Dr. to Green Spring Dr.

Underground tunnel blasting does not require traffic stops. The noise from blasts may be noticeable, but the blasts pose no risk to the traveling public and local residents.

Tunnel blasting is occurring in the east end of Louisville near the intersection of U.S. 42 and KY 841. Construction for the underground tunnel requires 24-hour work activities Monday through Saturday, and will continue throughout 2014. Blasts are expected through Friday several times before 8 a.m., around noon and before 6 p.m.

Tunnel blasting that will also take place at the north portal of the tunnel. The north portal is located in the vicinity of Shadow Wood Ln. and Shadow Wood Dr. Blasts are expected in the mornings before 7 a.m.

Tunnel blasting will also occur in Indiana between Port Rd. and Upper River Rd. Blasts are scheduled Monday through Friday after 9 a.m. and before 7 p.m. and on Saturday before 4 p.m.
