Global space industry grows more than 12 percent in 2011

LEXINGTON, Ky. (April 12, 2012) — The recently released Space Report by The Space Foundation showed that the global space economy grew to $289.77 billion last year. This represents a one-year, 12.2 percent rate of growth and a five-year increase of nearly 41 percent.

“The dramatic growth of the space industry, especially in a time of broad economic downturn, is extremely encouraging … particularly as Kentucky continues to rapidly build an entrepreneurial space industry in the state,” said Kris Kimel, president of Kentucky Space (KS), a nonprofit company focusing on research and development, and educational and entrepreneurial space solutions.
