$4.5 million project one of several for U.S. 60 in recent years
FRANKFORT, Ky. (Nov. 4, 2014) – Funds to rehabilitate a portion of U.S. 60 in Daviess County in Owensboro were approved last week.
The nearly $4.5 million project, which could be awarded as early as next week, is for resurfacing 4.8 miles of U.S. 60, from mile point 29 to mile point 33.8.
“This project is just the latest of several transportation improvements for Daviess County – projects that contribute to traffic safety, economic development and a continued, high quality of life for citizens of this community,” Gov. Steve Beshear said. “And we’re not finished.”
Another multi-million-dollar improvement of U.S. 60 – also known as the Wendell Ford Expressway – is scheduled to be put out for bids in November by the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet. The project will rehabilitate pavement on a 5.4-mile section of U.S. 60 from Bon Harbor Hills Road at the western end of the Wendell H. Ford Expressway to near the Sutherland Road Overpass.
These projects come on the heels of one of the largest road projects for Owensboro – the U.S. 60 Extension.
The nearly $73 million project, which began in 2009, was broken into two phases. The first phase was completed in 2011, the same year work began on the second phase.
“I was here in 2009 and 2011 breaking ground with you on both projects,” Gov. Beshear said. “It’s a pleasure to see this coming to completion.”
The extension opened to traffic in mid-September while some construction on the project continues. The expected completion date is next year.
