Rate down 1.9 percent since last year, to 5.8 percent
LOUISVILLE, Ky. (Nov. 4, 2014) — Louisville’s jobless rate dropped to 5.8 percent in September, the city’s lowest unemployment rate since April 2008. The national rate is 5.9 percent.
Since September 2013 the unemployment rate has dropped 1.9 percent, ranking Louisville fourth out of its 15 regional competitor cities.
“The falling unemployment rate in our city is welcome news and further evidence that business has confidence in our economic development strategies and our strong quality of life,” Louisville Mayor Greg Fischer said. “We still have much work to do to get more of our citizens back to work and to improve wages, which is one of our top goals,” Fischer said.
