MIDWAY, Ky. (Nov. 20, 2014) — Midway College has announced that Virginia Fox and Keith Mathis were installed as members of its board of trustees during the body’s meeting earlier this month.

The board is the governing body of the college, and the ownership, management and control of the college are vested in the board.

“Ms. Fox and Mr. Mathis are impressive, accomplished professionals who have broken barriers and traversed new ground in their fields,” board of trustees President Donna Moore Campbell said. “Even more importantly for Midway, they are dedicated to making higher education accessible to all. Their passion and vision will be an incredible asset to Midway College.”

In the past, Fox has served as Kentucky’s secretary of education and as CEO of Kentucky Educational Television (KET). During her tenure as secretary, she focused on fostering collaboration between P-20 education and business and community leaders, aligning K-12 educational standards to meet post-secondary expectations, and promoting the role of colleges and universities in civic engagement and regional stewardship.

As CEO of KET, Fox spearheaded the station’s “GED on TV” series, which has been viewed in all 50 states and at more than 200 armed service bases and correctional institutions, giving millions of people a chance to pursue a post-secondary education. In addition to serving on Midway’s board, she is a member of Northern Kentucky University’s board of regents and serves on the Vestry of the Church of the Ascension in Frankfort, Ky. She and her husband, Victor, reside in Frankfort.
