Will eliminate the need for outdoor air conditioning units and reduce noise
LOUISVILLE, Ky. (Jan. 28, 2015) — Norton Commons announced on Tuesday plans to construct in Louisville the largest 100 percent geothermal residential community in the U.S.
The project will introduce state-of-the-art geothermal heating and cooling at the approximately 1,800-lot North Village and will provide homeowners with energy savings, improve comfort, maximize space, reduce the noise of outdoor units and decrease environmental impact.
Geothermal heating and cooling will eliminate the need for outdoor air conditioning units and reduce noise. A network of underground geothermal loops and efficiently-sized heat pump units will be placed inside each home to provide homeowners with the most comfortable heating and cooling systems available on the market today.
Drilling for the underground geothermal fields will begin next week on the first 50 lots at Norton Commons and is being overseen by Aurora, Indiana-based Bucher Services. Drilling at another 75 lots will follow later this spring. Norton Commons is also working with manufacturer’s distributor Corken Steel Product Company, a partner of ClimateMaster Inc., to provide geothermal and water-source heat pumps to the new development.
An interactive kiosk will be available in February at the Norton Commons sales center to help current and future homeowners explore the new geothermal heating and cooling option and learn more about each system’s installation, function, and long-term energy performance benefits.
