Work under way on KY 32 bridge replacement in Nicholas County

$3 million project will build a new bridge near Myers

FLEMINGSBURG, Ky. (Feb. 4, 2014) — Work has begun on a $3 million Kentucky Transportation Cabinet project to replace the aging KY 32 bridge near Myers in Nicholas County.

KY 32 Bridge at MyersHaydon Bridge Co. Inc., which was awarded a $3,079,063.73 low-bid contract on the project, will build a new bridge adjacent to the old steel truss crossing Scrubgrass Creek and TTI Railroad about five miles east of Carlisle.

Land clearing and utility relocations are under way now, with construction of the new bridge scheduled to take place this spring through late summer. Demolition of the old bridge is slated for fall. The contractor has 160 working days to complete the project, which could occur by November.

During construction, KY 32 will remain open, but contractors will temporarily widen the highway near the existing bridge to divert traffic away from work zones. Those traffic changes are expected to begin this spring and continue through the summer.

Motorists should watch for flaggers, and heed all warning signs, and slow down in work zones and remain aware of workers and construction equipment when traveling.
