State fair exhibit to explore history of Kentucky’s Constitution

Fair is from Aug. 20-30

KYStateFair-ColorLOUISVILLE, Ky. (March 17, 2015) — A new Kentucky State Fair exhibition will explore the history of Kentucky’s Constitution—including the subsequent versions adopted in 1799, 1850, and 1891. The 1891 Constitution remains in effect today.

“From the ‘Powers That Be’ to the Power of WE: Exploring Our Constitution” will premiere at the state fair from Aug. 20-30.

A series of illustrated storyboards will chronicle how Kentucky grappled with constitutional issues such as slavery, citizenship rights and equal protection for African Americans, and property and voting rights for women.

“The Power of WE” will also feature historical documents and artifacts, engaging programs, and a whole array of interactive media, including touch-screen computer quizzes, a civil rights timeline and electronic profiles of our founding fathers and suffrage leaders.
