Empty Bowls of Owensboro selects location for funding

Annual fundraiser is Thursday

OWENSBORO, Ky. (April 22, 2015) — Empty Bowls of Owensboro has selected Woodlawn United Methodist Soup Kitchen as this year’s recipient of the event’s funds. The annual fundraiser, which is part of a national initiative to feed the hungry, will take place at 6 p.m. on Thursday in the Saints Joseph and Paul Catholic Church Community Center.

One of the main reasons Woodlawn United Methodist Soup Kitchen was selected was because of its lack of a commercial dishwasher. Rev. Randy Jones said, “Having a dishwasher would allow us to help the environment and also cut our costs from having to buy paper products.”

Woodlawn was selected for Empty Bowls funds five years ago, and used the money to start the kitchen. In this past year the kitchen was able to provide a meal to more than 3,300 individuals.
