Rising fifth-graders may apply for Summer Robotics Camp

LEXINGTON, Ky. (April 23, 2015) — The seventh annual FCPS Summer Robotics Camp for elementary students will be June 2-4 at Beaumont, Crawford, Morton and Winburn middle schools. Because of limited space, children must apply for a spot, and only current FCPS fourth-graders are eligible.

Campers will experience a fun, engaging and challenging curriculum as they work in teams to design and construct a robot. They will also program their robots to perform a series of functions repeated precisely while maneuvering through an obstacle course. The instruction will advance students through the curriculum and labs at a quick pace, so participants need to be present for the entire camp. On the final day, students will compete with SumoBots.

While the camp is free, families are expected to provide transportation, with student drop-off beginning at 8 a.m. and pick-up by 11:30 a.m. that Tuesday and Wednesday and 2:30 p.m. on Thursday. Snacks are provided all three days, and lunch will be provided on Thursday. (Bookmark the camp details at www.fcps.net/robotics.)

This camp is sponsored by the district’s Office of Career & Technical Education. For more information, contact program manager Kim Lyon.
