UK’s Walk With a Doc being held on Thursdays through August

Event is at Arboretum

healthLEXINGTON, Ky. (April 30, 2015) — The University of Kentucky is holding its Walk With a Doc program at 6 p.m. Thursday evenings through August. Gill Heart Institute’s Dr. Alison Bailey will lead the 30-minute walk at the UK Arboretum.

Walking for at least 30 minutes a day can help improve your blood pressure and blood sugar levels, reduce cholesterol, lower your risk for diabetes, colon cancer, breast cancer, osteoporosis, and possibly depression, Bailey said.

“Walking is low impact and therefore easier on the joints than running,” she said. “It is safe—with a doctor’s okay—for people with orthopedic ailments, heart conditions, and those who are more than 20 percent overweight.”
