Kentucky students honored in environmentally friendly art challenge

Contest inspires focus on environmental themes through art

FRANKFORT, Ky.  (May 13, 2015) – The Kentucky Department for Environmental Protection (DEP) has selected the student winners of the 2015 Eco-Art Contest.

The annual contest is open to high school students who create artwork in the categories of conservation, pollution prevention and environmental protection through the mediums of media drawing, painting, or print; mixed media; sculpture and photographs.

The winners are:

·         Vicky Lin, Atherton High School, Louisville
·         Taylor Wilson, Atherton High School, Louisville
·         Marina Witt, J. Graham Brown School, Louisville
·         Mindy Greenwell, North Bullitt High School, Shepherdsville
·         Miranda Keedy, North Bullitt High School, Shepherdsville
·         Christina Howard, West Jessamine High School, Nicholasville
·         Rachel Hampton, Metcalfe County High School
·         Kennedy Kincaid, Metcalfe County High School
·         Emily Jeter,  Metcalfe County High School
·         Hayley Bragg, Metcalfe County High School
·         Stephanie Stumbur, Paul Laurence Dunbar High School, Lexington
·         Samara Hall, Newport High School, Newport

“The contest encourages students to look to the future and reflect about the environment and humans’ impact on it. Through their artwork, the students reflect their thoughts and inspire others to protect our environment,” said DEP Commissioner R. Bruce Scott.

Artwork from the 2015 contest winners, along with past years’ winning submissions, will be displayed in the DEP Training Center in Frankfort, where it will be viewed by hundreds of visitors.
