LEXINGTON, Ky. (May 13, 2015) – Keeneland will celebrate the 140th running of the Preakness (G1) at Pimlico on Saturday, May 16, by presenting a live simulcast of the race and offering crab cakes, barbecue and the official drink of the Preakness, the “Black-Eyed Susan.”
Kentucky Derby Presented by Yum! Brands (G1) winner American Pharoah will attempt to claim the Preakness in his bid to become the first Triple Crown winner since 1978. Kentucky Derby runner-up and third-place finisher Firing Line and Dortmund, respectively, are also expected to enter the race.
On Saturday, drive-thru wagering windows open at 8 a.m. Gates open at 9 a.m. Grandstand mutuels open at 10:15 a.m. Admission and parking are free.
Post time for the first race from Pimlico on Saturday is 10:30 a.m., with the Preakness scheduled to run at approximately 6:18 p.m. Keeneland will simulcast the entire Pimlico race card on its infield video board and televisions throughout the track.
Concessions and full-service bars will be open in the Grandstand. In honor of the Preakness, crab cakes and Black-Eyed Susans will be served in the Paddock. Fans can bring their own food (excluding alcohol) and picnic items such as blankets and lawn chairs to the Paddock and Walking Ring. Tents, canopies, lawn umbrellas, grills and glass are not permitted inside the gates.
The Blue Grass Room on the third floor will be open for dining on Preakness Day with a buffet of burgers, brats and hot dogs. Reservations may be made by calling 859 288-4213.
On Friday, May 15, advance wagering on the entire Preakness Day card, as well as the Black-Eyed Susan/Preakness Double, will be available at mutuel windows beginning at 11:45 a.m. Drive-thru mutuel windows at Keeneland will be open Friday from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. and Saturday from 8 a.m. until Preakness post time.
Keeneland will simulcast the Black-Eyed Susan (G2) for 3-year-old fillies from Pimlico on Friday. First post at Pimlico is noon. Post time for the Black-Eyed Susan is 4:50 p.m. Post time for the Pimlico Special (G3) for older horses is 6:21 p.m.
