Wickliffe Mounds State Historic Site hosting Archaeology Adventure Day Camp for kids in June

WICKLIFFE, Ky. (May 15, 2015) – Wickliffe Mounds State Historic Site is offering in June a unique opportunity for children interested in history and archaeology.

The park’s Archaeology Day Camp will provide children a hands-on learning experience about Mississippian Native American culture, archaeology and the natural environment. The day camp will offer activities such as guided tours of the site, making clay pots, beaded necklaces, experiencing a simulated archaeological dig and replica artifact analysis, playing Native American games and demonstrations of primitive technology at a kid’s level.

There are two three-day camp sessions scheduled:
Camp I is June 10-12, for children ages 7-9 (Wednesday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.)
Camp II is June 24-26, for children ages 10-12 (Wednesday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.)

Drop-off begins at 8:45 a.m. and pickup is no later than 3:30 p.m.

Children need to bring a sack lunch to camp each day and dress for outdoor weather. Parents are provided an informational packet at time of registration.

The cost of each Archaeology Adventure Day Camp is $100 per child (this includes all three days, materials, camp T-shirt and certificate). Multi-child discount: Save $10 on each child for a cost of $90 per child.

To register your child for one of the camp sessions, call Wickliffe Mounds State Historic Site at 270-335-3681 or email [email protected] .  Registration is limited to 10 children per session, so sign up early to guarantee your spot.  Registration deadline for Camp I is June 5; for Camp II is June 19.
