Students receive national recognition for creativity

Honored by National PTA

LEXINGTON, Ky. (May 18, 2015) — Four entries from Kentucky students have earned national awards of merit in the National PTA Reflections arts in education program.

UnknownThe awards honor imagination, creativity and interpretation of the 2014-2015 theme “The World Would Be A Better Place If …”

Stephanie Stumbur of Paul Laurence Dunbar High School in Lexington was recognized in Photography for “The History Around Us.”

Sydney Carter and Lydia Blues of Edythe J. Hayes Middle School in Lexington were recognized for “Everyone Sign Up” in Visual Arts.

Ajayteja Kavuri of Greathouse Shyrock Elementary School in Louisville was recognized in the Literature category for “Things to Do for a Better World.”

Morgan Ray of Lincoln Performing Arts Elementary in Louisville was recognized in Dance Choreography for “Hoop Dance is My Happy.”

The artwork will be on display during the 2015 National PTA Convention & Expo from June 25-28 at the Convention Center in Charlotte, N.C. Award recipients also will be honored on Jan. 12, 2016 at the U.S. Department of Education’s LBJ Building in Washington, D.C., in a ceremony that opens an exhibit of their artwork, which will be up through February.
