Students tested on knowledge of Kentucky natural resources
LEXINGTON, Ky. (May 19, 2015) — A team from Paul Laurence Dunbar High School in Lexington tallied the top score in soils, aquatics and forestry en route to defending its title as Kentucky Envirothon champion.
The winners were juniors Jinny Han, Jasmine Liu, Theo Livas, George Simpson and Lucy Yang.
During the competition students demonstrated their knowledge of Kentucky’s natural resources at five field stations: soils, aquatics, forestry, wildlife and a current environmental issue. Through experiments, analysis and critical thinking, and with the support of natural resource professionals, this competition trains students in environmental problem-solving.
The Dunbar team will represent Kentucky this summer at the National Conservation Foundation’s North American Envirothon in Springfield, Mo.
