ElderServe to honor Louisville reverend for commitment to serving older adults

Rev. Ron Loughry to receive 2015 Champion for the Aging Award

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (June 10, 2015) — ElderServe has named Rev. Ron Loughry, executive director of Fern Creek/Highview United Ministries, as the 2015 Champion for the Aging Award recipient. The award is presented in recognition of outstanding commitment to improving the lives of older adults. He will be honored at a ceremony on Friday.

ron_lr-259x300For more than 30 years, Loughry has been an advocate for seniors, an aging services provider and a champion of compassion in the Metro Louisville community. He moved to Louisville in 1986 to complete his Master of Divinity at the Southern Baptist Theological Seminary. He has made a major impact on social services for older adults in the area since that time.

He also serves as a minister with the Christian Church Disciples of Christ, has taught as adjunct faculty for thirty years, worked in ecumenical and interfaith ministries, ministered in the social justice and aging arenas and worked with older adults for over three decades. His efforts include conducting and directing oral history projects involving older adults, training museum docents, leading a project to restore and preserve a Civil War earthen works fort, hospital and nursing home chaplaincy, counseling, serving on various advocacy commissions, organizing and directing collaborative policy and legislative task forces (including congressional, state-level, and local advisory councils), lecturing and supervising and developing intergenerational activities.

He is involved in numerous professional and community organizations including: National and Kentucky Associations of Adult Day Services, Louisville Metro TRIAD, Senior Day Out, Health Services Professional Network, the Fern Creek Community Association and Chamber of Commerce, the Highview Business Association, and the Fern Creek/ Highview Ministerial Association. He serves as the current president of the Association of Community Ministries.
