Humana, Tempur Sealy selected as Kentucky Public Company of the Year winners

Louisville, Ky. – Lexington-based Tempur Sealy International, Inc. (NYSE: TPX) and Louisville healthcare insurer Humana Inc. (NYSE: HUM) won honors as Kentucky’s best performing public companies.
Tempur Sealy, an international bedding manufacturer and marketer, and Humana, a wellness and healthcare company, were chosen based on performance criteria developed by a special Kentucky Public Company of the Year selection committee. Texas Roadhouse, Inc. (NASDAQ: TXRH) and Papa Johns International, Inc. (NASDAQ: PZZA) were finalists for the award.
“It’s an honor to be included in this group of iconic Kentucky companies, and an even greater honor to be named a co-winner,” said Tempur Sealy International, Inc. Chief Financial Officer and Executive Vice President Dale Williams. “We appreciate the thorough research that INVESTKentucky did as part of the process, and on behalf of our more than 400 Kentucky-based team members and more than 6,500 employees worldwide, we are thankful for the recognition.”
“We at Humana are honored to be recognized as a co-recipient of this meaningful award,” said Humana Chief Financial Officer Brian Kane. “We deeply appreciate the support of the investment community and want to thank INVESTKentucky for all it does to bring together investors and Kentucky’s public companies.”
About the selection process
Representatives from the CFA Society Louisville and the Louisville chapter of Financial Executives International comprised the selection committee which approved and applied the selection criteria to determine the top performing companies from all Kentucky headquartered public companies.  Included were accounting and market performance metrics such as return on assets, return on equity, revenue growth, total shareholder return and change in market value for a two-year period.
The committee asked each company to provide information about strategy, philanthropy and employment to determine a winner in the event of a tie. For this inaugural award, the committee decided that the winning companies deserved to be recognized based on quantitative rankings rather than qualitative measures.
The four companies were presented awards at a ceremony held at the INVESTKentucky Equity Conference (www.investky.com), a biennial event which provides professional investors and analysts the opportunity to interact with top Kentucky public company executives. INVESTKentucky Chairman Terry McWilliams added, “We’re proud to recognize and honor these top performing Kentucky public companies which provide so many opportunities while they serve consumers in the United States as well as internationally.”
