2015 KET Young Writers Contest draws 579 entries

For students in kindergarten through fifth-grade

LEXINGTON, Ky. (June 22, 2015) — The 2015 KET Young Writers Contest drew 579 entries from Kentucky and surrounding regions. This year, students in kindergarten through third grade were invited to submit illustrated stories, while students in fourth and fifth grade could enter KET’s short story contest.

Here are the top three finishers in each category:

Kindergarten

  • 1st place: Sophia Elena Mendes Spiegel, Louisville, “The Cat-Fairy”
  • 2nd place: Evan Stemler, New Albany, Ind., “The Fishing Family”
  • 3rd place: Sarah Gauhar, Louisville, “My Brother’s Crazy Imagination”

First Grade

  • 1st place: Piper Stevens, Nicholasville, “Chick and Mouse’s Christmas Tree”
  • 2nd place: Abigail Woolley, Louisville, “Carly Clair, Cut Your Hair”

Second Grade
