Lexington motorists warned to be weary of storm damage, flooding, road closures

Afternoon storm knocks down trees, causes flooding

LEXINGTON, Ky. (July 10, 2015) — A lunchtime storm blew through Lexington on Friday, bringing with it high winds and heavy rain. Several roads were blocked due to flooding, fallen trees and downed power lines.

Lexington police spokeswoman Sherelle Roberts advised motorists to use caution and be aware of traffic hazards in several locations:

Leestown Rd/US-421 between Locust Farm Road (near the entrance to the Federal Medical Prison) and Yarnallton Pike was closed in both directions because of a downed electric pole. Closure is expected to last 6-8 hours. Inbound traffic is being diverted onto North Yarnallton Pike towards Old Frankfort Pike. Outbound traffic is being diverted onto Locust Farm Rd and returned inbound.
