Louisville, Ky. – KentuckyOne Health has named Leslie Buddeke Smart, CRFE, as vice president of development. She will begin this position on Aug. 17, 2015.
Smart will serve as the primary representative of KentuckyOne Health philanthropy throughout the Commonwealth. She will lead a regional team responsible for meeting annual fundraising goals using sales-driven strategies. She will also have the responsibility of engaging with various KentuckyOne Health foundation boards across the Commonwealth.
Smart joins KentuckyOne after serving nine years as the executive director of philanthropy for the Children’s Hospital Foundation and Norton Healthcare Foundation, which raise more than $20 million annually. During her tenure, she oversaw events, grants, annual giving and general operations at both foundations. She also managed a personal, major and planned gifts portfolio. She recently supported a $208 million campaign for Louisville’s Kosair Children’s Hospital.
In addition to fundraising, Smart championed an autism project that garnered national publicity on “Good Morning America” and “The Ellen Show.”
She currently serves on the board of the Louisville Ballet, is parish council chair at the Cathedral of the Assumption and is a graduate of Leadership Louisville. She is a recent past board member of the Kentucky Opera. She is also past president of the Association of Fundraising Executives Greater Louisville Chapter, as well as a past member of the International Association of Fundraising Professional’s committee on directorship.
Smart will succeed Sherri Craig as KentuckyOne Health’s leader of philanthropy. Craig has served in a dual role leading KentuckyOne Health’s six foundations throughout Kentucky, while also leading the health system’s advocacy efforts across the Commonwealth of Kentucky. This transition will allow Craig to focus solely on the critically important advocacy issues facing KentuckyOne Health.
