Murray State launches interactive campus tour

Guides visiting students around locations

MURRAY, Ky. (July 30, 2015) — Murray State University released its new interactive online campus tour on Monday. The tool provides an intimate look inside Murray State’s campus and academic areas, creating a realistic depiction of Murray State’s campus life.

The photorealistic interactive tour and map includes authentic images, videos, links and detailed descriptions of 20 campus locations. Students visiting the tour will be “guided” around the locations by four individual Murray Sate students, gaining insight and information at each stop, much like a physical walking tour on campus.

Allie Douglass, public relations specialist, began close collaboration with CampusTours in October 2014, to develop each of the tour’s components. “It’s been an exciting process, one that required lots of creativity and detail. When you’re dealing with hundreds of university facts and information, close attention must be paid,” she said.

The department worked to gather content that would give every person taking the tour an accurate impression of campus. “Our campus is our most effective recruitment tool, but there are so many students who don’t get the chance to visit in person before choosing a school. This tour will allow everyone to experience Murray State and all it has to offer through the convenience of their own computers and smart phones,” said Douglass.

“New students can use the tour to help them navigate around campus, alumni can revisit their alma mater without leaving their homes and parents can get a real feel for where they would be sending their children,” Douglass said.

Shawn Smee, Murray State’s director of recruitment, said he hopes to capture prospective students’ attention with the online tour.  Smee said, “For many students, this may be the first opportunity they have to learn about the numerous academic options available on campus. I hope it peaks their interest enough that the next step will be to register for an official campus visit.”
