Kentucky Historical Society school arts program earns national award

Will be presented by the American Association of State and Local History

FRANKFORT, Ky. (Aug. 31, 2015) — The Kentucky Historical Society (KHS) has earned a prestigious award for an in-school program that combines history with arts.

The program, History smArts, uses images, artifacts and questioning techniques to teach students visual analysis skills. Students do a hands-on art activity to reinforce what they have learned.

The American Association of State and Local History (AASLH) will present History smArts with an Award of Merit Leadership in History Award during the association’s annual meeting in Louisville in September. Award recipients represent the best in the field and provide leadership for the future of state and local history, according to information from AASLH.
