Gateway offering Basic Welding Boot Camp

From Oct. 23 to Dec. 11 in Florence

FLORENCE, Ky. (Sept. 28, 2015) — Gateway Community and Technical College will offer a seven-week Basic Welding Boot Camp from Oct. 23 to Dec. 11 at the college’s Center for Advanced Manufacturing at the Boone Campus in Florence.

gateway“We are offering these classes to help overcome a shortage of qualified welders in the area,” said Carissa Schutzman, Gateway dean of Workforce Solutions. “In just eight weeks, participants will learn the basic theory, set-up, operation and related safety techniques for Oxy-Fuel and Plasma arc cutting, as well as SMAW (stick), GMAW (MIG), and GTAW (TIG) processes.”

The boot camp meets weekly on Fridays from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. There is no class meeting Nov. 27.

The cost of the course is $600 per person. Participants are responsible for their personal protective equipment, including welding helmets, gloves, safety glasses and any other required equipment. Deadline to register for the class is Oct. 9.
