Seed Capital KY recognized in distinguished Good Food Org Guide

Louisville, Ky. – Seed Capital KY, a nonprofit bolstering the state’s agriculture and food economy through the West Louisville FoodPort, has been included alongside other related nonprofits in the annual Good Food Organization Guide.

The guide was developed by the James Beard Foundation, Food Tank and a prestigious advisory group of more than 70 food system experts. Last year’s guide was downloaded by more than 100,000 individuals.

Seed Capital KY was included based on its work to develop the West Louisville FoodPort, poised to become one of the most transformative urban reinvestment projects of the decade. On a 24-acre campus at 30th and W. Market Streets in West Louisville, the FoodPort will locate food-related businesses in one place where they can buy food from local farmers and hire neighbors for jobs.

“We are honored to be included in the 2015 Good Food Guide,” said Caroline Heine, project director and Seed Capital KY co-founder. “We believe the West Louisville FoodPort is an important example of a community coming together to find creative ways to make healthy, regionally-sourced foods available while creating jobs and entrepreneurial opportunities in neighborhoods that desperately need them. We hope that being in this Guide brings attention to the project so other cities can see this as a model.”

Designed by world-renowned architecture firm OMA, the FoodPort will unite Louisville with a state-of-the-art landmark that spurs economic activity in a historic, but under-invested section of our city. The entire project invests over $25 million into the community.

This year’s guide has tripled in size and includes new features such as categories and an online interactive mapping and search tool. This brand new website (www.goodfoodorgguide.com) allows users to search by keyword, location, and category in order to explore the organizations they are most interested in. Every organization, including Seed Capital KY, has its own unique profile page including contact information, description, logo, social media links, directions, and photos.
