Campaign wants to fill holiday cheer with Kentucky art

2015 Give a Gift Made in Kentucky runs through Oct. 31

FRANKFORT, Ky. (Nov. 9, 2015) — The Kentucky Arts Council and the Kentucky Artisan Center in Berea on Friday launched the 2015 Give a Gift Made in Kentucky campaign to promote Kentucky art as gifts during the holidays. The campaign runs through Dec. 31.

Santa_byLindyEvans Artists in Kentucky Arts Council’s Kentucky Crafted and Architectural Artist Directory will feature their studios, galleries and shops for holiday open houses and other events showcasing their work. Events will run through the entire Give a Gift campaign, and will be located throughout the state

“Kentucky-made art and craft is among the best there is, and the holidays are a perfect time to share Kentucky-made art as gifts for friends and family,” said Lori Meadows, executive director of the arts council. “Whether it’s music, literature or any of the wonderful visual art and craft Kentucky artists produce, there is something for everyone on your list that is uniquely Kentucky.”

The Kentucky Artisan Center at Berea, where visitors can purchase Kentucky-made products from more than 700 Kentucky artisans year-round, has a busy schedule of artist demonstrations, book signings, musical performances and more throughout the holiday season. A schedule of events is listed on the agency’s online calendar and additional information can be found on its Facebook page.

“We love encouraging people to ‘Give a Gift Made in Kentucky.’ It’s such a great way to ensure the gifts people give are special—and will be treasured for years to come,” said Victoria Faoro, artisan center executive director. “Giving gifts made in Kentucky makes the holiday memorable for everyone—and provides important support for our state’s talented artisans.”

Shoppers interested in purchasing Kentucky-made items can visit more than 20 businesses designated as Kentucky Crafted Retailers. These businesses carry items from Kentucky artists, including those in the arts council’s Kentucky Crafted program, Architectural Artists Directory and Performing Arts Directory. Many retailers have special events, promotions and discounts throughout the holiday season.
