Traffic could be heavy in Lexington Friday with two UK hoops games

Men host Albany; women play Rice

LEXINGTON, Ky. (Nov. 11, 2015) — Traffic could be heavy on Friday night in downtown Lexington and around the University of Kentucky campus with the men’s and women’s basketball teams both opening the season at 7 p.m. at home.

baskebtallThe UK men, ranked No. 2 in this year’s Associated Press poll, open the season at Rupp Arena against Albany. Last year UK went 38-1, advancing to the Final Four, before losing to Wisconsin 71-64. UK went 21-0 at home last season.

UK games last year typically drew between 22,000 to 24,000 fans, with a season-high 24,428 in attendance last year against rival Florida. Games against North Carolina and Arkansas also drew 24,406 and 24,416 fans.

The UK women, ranked No. 18, host Rice at Memorial Coliseum. UK went 24-10 last season, losing to Dayton in the second round of the NCAA Tournament 99-94. Last season UK typically drew between 4,000 to 6,000 fans at each game, recording a season high attendance of 7,560 during a 67-56 victory against No. 2 South Carolina. The Wildcats also had 7,407 fans during a 73-72 loss to No. 6 Tennessee.

The Associated Press is reporting that junior guard Linnae Harper (11.4 points and a team-high 7.1 rebounds last year) has decided to transfer. On Oct. 15 Chrishae Rowe, an Oregon transfer who would have been eligible after the fall semester, was dismissed from the team for failing to uphold program standards.
