Governor-elect Bevin appoints secretary of executive cabinet

Frankfort, Ky. – Kentucky Governor-elect Matt Bevin has appointed Scott Brinkman as secretary of the executive cabinet.

Brinkman is a former Kentucky State Representative and respected attorney with more than 35 years of legal and management experience.

The secretary of the executive cabinet develops and implements the major program decisions for the executive branch. They also oversee the administration of the various cabinets and agencies of state government and coordinates legislative policy for the governor.

“Scott has a proven track record in the General Assembly and private sector,” Bevin said. “He brings the right leadership qualities to effectively manage the Executive Cabinet and build the consensus we need to move our agenda forward.”

Brinkman is a corporate, public finance and real estate attorney who has represented numerous Kentucky companies and individuals over the last 35 years. He was elected to serve in the Kentucky House of Representatives in 2000. He served eight of 10 years on the Appropriations and Revenue Committee of the House of Representatives and had a special focus on the biennial budget, disability issues and business legislation.

“I am humbled to have the opportunity to serve the Commonwealth again,” Brinkman said. “Governor-Elect Bevin has a clear vision for improving Kentucky. It is an honor to have a role in making a path for his platform to succeed.”

Brinkman, age 60, received a B.A. in Government from the University of Notre Dame and J.D. from the University of Cincinnati College of Law. Brinkman and his wife reside in Louisville and have three grown children.
