‘Shark Tank’ style entrepreneurial program at Brescia University offering cash prizes

$500 for students, $1,000 for community members

OWENSBORO, Ky. (Nov. 20, 2015) — Brescia University, the Greater Owensboro Economic Development Corporation (EDC) and the Kentucky Innovation Network have announced open enrollment for the Spring 2016 cohort of the CO.STARTERS program. The hands-on workshop platform seeks to help the community grow local business and develop rising students and professional leaders succeed.

The “Shark Tank” style pitch night is designed to give participants the opportunity to not only hear from a panel of judges, but to showcase their ideas to community members, opening the door for partnerships and community support.

Students participating in the program will have the chance to win $500, while community members participating will compete for a $1,000 cash prize.

CO.STARTERS is designed to help participants think through a business idea, the assumptions behind them, determine next steps and prepare for future success. The program equips aspiring entrepreneurs with the insights, relationships, and tools needed to turn business ideas into action. This semester, the program promises will be even more interactive than past sessions, with guest speakers, a networking event, and opportunities to tour local businesses and learn from those industry leaders.

Applications are currently being accepted. Space is limited. Classes will meet from 5:30-7 p.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays at Brescia University beginning Feb. 16. The final session is April 28.
