Frankfort, Ky. – Governor-elect Matt Bevin announced the appointment of Vickie Yates Brown Glisson, JD as Secretary of the Cabinet for Health and Family Services. Glisson joins the administration with extensive experience in health care law, business and government affairs.

“The appointment of the Secretary of the Cabinet for Health and Family Services is one of the most critical decisions I will make as governor. Kentucky is consistently ranked as one of the least healthy states in the country,” Bevin said. “We have one in four of our citizens enrolled in Medicaid and the financial costs to the Commonwealth are growing exponentially. We must be innovative in our efforts to improve health outcomes for Kentuckians, but do so in a prudent and sustainable manner. I am highly confident that Vickie is the right person to lead this effort.”

Glisson is a nationally recognized health and health insurance lawyer and member of the Health Enterprise Practice Group at Frost Brown Todd LLC where she concentrates her practice in health care, health insurance law, government affairs, informatics and mediation. She sits on the editorial board of the BNA Health Law Reporter and is certified as a mediator. She is also the past Chair of the Health Law Section of the American Bar Association (ABA) and appointed by the President of the ABA to serve as the Health Law Section representative to the ABA Standing Committee on Government Affairs and as a member of the ABA Standing Committee on Medical Professional Liability.

She was named President and CEO of Nucleus, an economic development arm of the University of Louisville, in the spring of 2008. In this role she advised the University of Louisville in the areas of health, life sciences and research.

Glisson has served on the Advisory Council for the Human Genome Project and National Institute of Diabetes, Digestion and Kidney Disease as part of the National Institutes of Health. She has delivered numerous national and international presentations and co-authored a number of publications on health care law and government regulation.

“It is an honor to serve my home state and Governor Bevin,” Glisson said. “I look forward to working with stakeholders as, together, we find solutions to the challenges facing Kentucky families, the health care industry and our most vulnerable citizens.”

Vickie has received the highest peer review rating from Martindale Hubbell of AV Preeminent. She has been selected to be included in The Best Lawyers of America, Kentucky Super Lawyer and The Guide to the Leading Healthcare Lawyers in America.

Glisson was selected as the 2013 Woman of Influence by Louisville Business First newspaper and was a Martha Layne Collins Leadership Award winner in 2013. She was also recently awarded the Ernst & Young 2013 Supporter of Entrepreneurship for South Central Ohio and Kentucky, was a finalist for Business First’s 2013 Business Leader of the Year Award, awarded the Business First Partner in Healthcare Award on numerous occasions and received the Greater Louisville Inc. 2013 Silver Fleur de Lis Award for fostering technology research and innovation.

Glisson, a native of Spencer County, Kentucky, resides in Louisville with her husband, Col. Shawn D. Glisson, M.D. (Ret. USA), an oncologist and hemotologist with Norton Healthcare in Louisville, Kentucky.
