Louisville Better Business Bureau warns of “Star Wars” ticket scams

Louisville, Ky. – This holiday season, tell scammers “these are not the droids you’re looking for.”

The Better Business Bureau serving Louisville, Southern Indiana and Western Kentucky, in its monthly “Hot Topics” list, warns customers of “Star Wars” movie ticket scams and other topical swindles.

A new “Star Wars” movie installment, “The Force Awakens,” opens next week, and the BBB says an email, with an official logo and link to the movie trailer, is making the rounds meant to phish for personal information.

Also, beware of faking shipping notifications from UPS and FedEx in your inbox. The email claims there was a problem and your package could not be delivered, however these are actually phishing information and could lead to a virus on your computer or worse.

A “gift exchange” on social media is really a pyramid scheme, according to the BBB. The post asks users to “buy a $10 gift for a stranger and receive as many as 36 gifts back.” The scheme relies on recruiting new participants and is a form of illegal gambling.
