NKU to graduate 1,333 on Saturday

Ceremonies at 10 a.m. and 3 p.m.

HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. (Dec. 11, 2015) — More than 1,300 students will be honored at Northern Kentucky University’s 43rd Commencement on Saturday at BB&T Arena.

Commencement exercises will be held at 10 a.m. for graduates of the College of Arts and Sciences and the Haile/US Bank College of Business, and at 3 p.m. for graduates of the College of Education and Human Services, the College of Health Professions, and the College of Informatics.

nkuDr. Cecile A. Marczinski, associate professor of Psychology and recipient of NKU’s Frank Sinton Milburn Outstanding Professor Award, will deliver the Commencement address.

Graduates will hear from two of their peers as well: Orsella Irambona in the morning and Jacob Cain in the afternoon.

Irambona is a native of Bujumbura, Burundi who immigrated to the U.S. with her family in 2006. She attended Withrow High School in Cincinnati, where she learned English in just six months. Irambona received a full academic scholarship to NKU, making the President’s Honor list and the Scholar list while being involved in extracurricular activities. She will graduate with a dual Bachelor of Science in Finance and Business Management, and she plans to work for The Kroger Co.

Cain is a native of Cold Spring and a graduate of Newport Central Catholic High School. He attended NKU on an athletic scholarship, playing baseball while also making the Dean’s List and the NKU All-Academic Team. He will graduate with a Bachelor of Science in Athletic Training, and he plans to work as a graduate assistant while pursing a master’s degree.

In all, 1,333 students will celebrate Commencement at Saturday’s ceremony. They include students who completed their degrees in August as well as those who completed their degrees in December.

The honorees will also include one four-legged friend: Nora, a service dog, assisted her owner, Jennifer Holladay, in receiving a Master’s in Public Administration degree. Nora will receive a certificate of service from NKU.
